Thank you for presenting at the 2017 ORPA Annual Conference.  We believe all the knowledge and expertise you bring to the field of parks and recreation help contribute positively to the success of the conference.

Below is all the information you will need for speaking at the conference.  If you feel there is something missing from this list, please let us know by calling 503.534.5673 or emailing (Amanda Parsons).

Before the Conference

Take some time before the conference to make sure you are prepared and ready for the conference.

Make sure you've registered for the event.  Without doing so, we won't know when you'll be there and won't be able to plan for any meals you'll be having.  This is especially important if you are hoping to attend on Tuesday as there is limited space available.

You can register here by clicking on "I am a speaker".  Your presentation day at the conference is free, so be sure to following instructions carefully.

Presentations and Materials

As per your presentation proposal, you agreed to submit all handouts, materials, and a copy of your presentation to the Oregon Recreation and Park Association.  We are frequently asked by members for copies of slide decks, handouts, or other materials and find it can be best facilitated by making these materials available on our conference app.

Submit your materials.

Conference App

Our conference app is the best resource for attendees and speakers alike.  The app allows attendees to review all the sessions and create a personalized schedule.  It also allows attendees to take notes during a presentation, and provide feedback.

Your speaker profile and presentation are both on the app.  We highly recommend downloading the app and reviewing it for accuracy.

How to Download the App:

  • If you are viewing this page on a mobile device, click here:
  • Or, Search: "Oregon Recreation & Park Association" in the Apple Store or Google Play Store

Special Requests

If you need special equipment other than what was requested when you proposed your session, please let us know as soon as possible.  We will try to accommodate late requests for easels, flipcharts, etc., but cannot promise that they'll be met.  To make certain you have what you need, it may be best to bring your own.

The conference takes place at The Riverhouse on the Deschutes, 3075 N Hwy 97, Bend, OR 97703.  The room block at The Riverhouse is now full.  There may be rooms still available at their regular rate.

Additional lodging:

Shilo Inn (next door) | 3105 O. B. Riley Rd, Bend, OR 97703 | 541.389.9600

At the Conference

Be sure to have everything ready by following these steps.

What to Bring

  • Laptop
    • Laptops are not available at the conference facility and will not be provided by ORPA.  All presenters are responsible for bringing their own devices.
    • Projectors and screens are built into the rooms at The Riverhouse. Cables for HDMI and VGA are available.
    • NOTE: If your computer does not connect to either a VGA or HDMI cable, please bring an adapter.
  • Presentation backups
    • If you have never presented before, you should know that whatever can go wrong often does.  It is always best to be prepared with backups.  This includes:
      • Send a copy of your presentation to ORPA
      • Upload to a cloud storage solution (Wi-Fi is available at The Riverhouse)
      • Copy your presentation onto a thumb drive or other external device
  • Print materials
    • If your presentation has handouts that attendees should fill out, or any kind of worksheets, you are responsible for printing copies and bringing them.
    • ORPA will not have the ability to print copies for distribution.

Checking In

All speakers will need to check in at the registration desk when they arrive.  Tell the registration desk that you are a speaker.  You will be provided with a name badge, any appropriate meal tickets, a free conference duffel bag, and an additional gift for being a valued speaker.

Before your session, be sure to visit your assigned room so you know where it is located and familiarize yourself with the space.

Room Hosts

Volunteers Room Hosts are assigned to each session.  They will introduce you, keep you on time, thank sponsors and ask for participants to rate your session on our app. If your room is without a host, please ask for attendees to rate the session and thank your track sponsor if appropriate. Please consider volunteering as a host either before or after your session. It’s fun.

Lastly, and most important, enjoy yourself. Feel good about contributing to the largest gathering
of park and recreation professionals in the state.
