ORPA Board of Directors Meeting

Maintenance & Construction Section

ORPA's Maintenance and Construction Section (MACS) provides information and training to managers and technicians who are responsible for planning, design, and maintenance of park and recreation facilities.

MACS provides networking and training for section affiliates to learn and share important information on maintenance and construction techniques, materials, regulations, and standards.

This year, ORPA is offering the CPSI course twice.  Those seeking certification, or re-certificiation, only need to register for one course.  Select the dates that work best for you.

Past Events



In 2017, MACS held a Basic Tree Risk Assessment and Management Workshop February 2nd; Playground Safety, Surfacing, Maintenance and Repair Workshop on March 9th; a 2-day Irrigation Workshop April 27-28, and a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) Course June 14-16th; a Building Maintenance and Repair Workshop September 14th; and a Playground Maintenance Technician Training October 3-4th. 

In 2016, MACS held the CPSI class (June 8-10th in Hillsboro), an irrigation workshop in July, a sports turf maintenance workshop in September, and Playground Maintenance Technician (PMT) traiing in Octorber.  MACS also held a Maintenance Techniques track for the ORPA Annual Conference in November.

In 2015, MACS hosted the Certified Playground Safety Inspector class in Hillsboro, a playground installation workshop in Parkdale, and a PMT training program in October in Eugene. 

In 2014, MACS hosted the CPSI class, PMT training, a workshop on building maintenance and security, and a day-long natural play workshop with the ON-Play Network and Oregon State Parks.

Led by Jesus Gonzalez of Hillsboro Parks and Recreation, MACS affiliates typically include park maintenance, superintendents, facility operators, maintenance coordinators, and others who maintain parks, open spaces, and recreational facilities.

Service Projects & Playground Builds

Every year MACS volunteers give back through a volunteer playground installation or other service project.  Communities can apply for members of the section to install a playground in a neighborhood in need.

MACS presents annual awards for outstanding maintenance and construction projects and personnel.  These awards are presented at the Annual Conference during the MACS section meeting.

MACS Outstanding Project Award recognizes an outstanding maintenance or construction project completed by an ORPA member agency during the past year.
