Field Sessions

Sunriver Nature Center: Fifty Years of Education and Conservation

Since 1958, the Sunriver Nature Center has served as the environmental touchstone for the Sunriver community. During a guided tour of the Sunriver Nature Center’s campus you will learn about the history of the Sunriver area and how the Nature Center’s programs have evolved through the years to support the community and the organization’s mission. The Nature Center’s environmental educational programs, such as Project Ponderosa, Junior Naturalist, and K-12 outreach will be highlighted. You will also learn about the Nature Center’s expansion and improvement plans to address aging facilities and a significant increase in visitors over the last ten years.

Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation at Sunriver Nature Center

The Sunriver Nature Center has served as a state and federally licensed wildlife rehabilitation center for over 30 years and has a long history of supporting local conservation initiatives. As the only rehabilitation facility in south Central Oregon, the Nature Center receives dozens of animals each year for rehabilitation and fields hundreds of calls about nuisance, injured, and orphaned wildlife. During this session, participants will have an opportunity to learn more about our wildlife rehabilitation efforts during a behind the scenes tour of the animal care facility. In addition to rehabilitating wildlife, the Nature Center supports a number of wildlife conservation projects in Oregon. You’ll learn about our participation in the statewide effort to reintroduce Trumpeter Swans to Oregon and about our work to support the conservation of the Oregon Spotted Frog and its habitat.

Transportation will be provided by Sunriver Resort.  Attendees must register for a field session, as space is limited.

Section Meetings

Monday - Nov 5, 11:00am - 12:15pm

Oregon Recreation and Park Association has 8 affiliated sections representing the many areas of parks and recreation.  Members are encouraged to participate in at least one section related to their field or interests.

On Tuesday morning at the conference, sections will gather in various rooms and discuss incoming board, next year's schedule of events and training, or even host a round table to allow for networking within the section.  This is the perfect time to meet section board leaders and find ways you can be an active member.

What are the ORPA Sections?

Social Events

Throughout the conference there are various social events and networking opportunities.

Opening Ceremony

Sunday, 1:00pm - 2:30pm

The opening ceremony and keynote address officially launch the conference.  This will include a welcome and introduction from our current ORPA President, the signing off of the 2018 Board of Directors, and then transition to the keynote speaker.

Opening Reception

Sunday, 5:30pm - 7:00pm

Following the first day of the conference will be your opportunity to begin meeting new people and finding old friends.  The opening reception will include hors d'oeuvres, drinks, and a chance to meet the wonderful sponsors who help make this event possible.

ORPA Showcase and Networking Break

Monday, 9:45am - 11:00am

Following the first breakout session of the day, this networking break is a great time for you to follow up with other professionals and begin building relationships.  Taking place in the exhibitor hall allows for you to make connections with vendors that impact your work and see new ideas taking shape in the parks and recreation industry.

ORPA Annual Awards Luncheon

Monday, 12:30pm - 2:00pm

One of the biggest events of the conference, we celebrate with the ORPA Annual Awards Luncheon!  Awards in 11 categories are distributed to people, projects, and partners in the parks and recreation industry who have demonstrated success and hard work through the year.  It is truly a time of celebration.  The luncheon includes a plated lunch for all attendees to pair with the entertainment.

Exhibitor Showcase and Silent Auction

Monday, 5:30pm - 7:00pm

Join us Monday evening for appetizers before dinner and a chance to win one of our amazing prizes at the silent auction.  This evening event is always a ton of fun with auction winners announced throughout the night, the buzz of everyone talking about their sessions, and a Showcase Bingo that is sure to keep you on your toes.

Party Night in Sunriver

Monday, 8:00pm - 12:00pm

Despite being a Monday, you can still get your groove on in the Great Hall.  Complete with DJ, drinks, food, and a photo booth, come socialize in this fun and relaxed environment.

Last Day Lunch

Tuesday, 11:30am - 1:00pm

Nearing the end of the conference, the last-day-lunch is an opportunity for you to make final connections with that person you were meaning to catch up with and exchange businesses cards, to catch up on your session notes, and to learn more about the upcoming opportunities at ORPA.
