2017 Certified Playground Safety Inspector Class & Exam

Oregon's only 2017 Certified Playground Safety Inspector certification course and certification exam, June 14-16. Class is June 14 & 15. Certification exam is June 16. Participants may register for the class and exam, the class only, or the exam only. Registration for CPSI 2017 will be open January 3rd, 2017.

Oregon's only 2017 Certified Playground Safety Inspector certification course and certification exam, June 14-16. Class is June 14 & 15. Certification exam is June 16. Participants may register for the class and exam, the class only, or the exam only. Registration for CPSI 2017 will open January 3rd, 2017.

The purpose of the CPSI course is to educate participants on national playground standards and guidelines for children aged 2-12 years old and to enable those who successfully complete the course to:

  • identify hazards on public playground equipment and the playground
  • rank the hazards according to injury potential
  • apply the knowledge to remove the hazards and establish a system of inspections.

Tom M. Kalousek, CPSI

Tom Kalousek began working for the Bensenville Park District in Illinois after completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography/Geology. He supervised maintenance there and subsequently at the nearby Arlington Height Park District and the Elmhurst Park District. During this time Tom began a long association with the Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA). In 1978 he became the Superintendent of Maintenance at the Rockford Park District in Illinois.

In 1995 Tom became an instructor for the NRPA National Playground Safety Institute (NPSI) Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) course. Over the 16 years as an instructor he has taught over 130 courses, including courses in Singapore, Hong Kong, Okinawa, Japan, and Germany. He has also chaired NPSI three times and served on the NPSI Exam and Instructor committee. Tom, in the leadership of NRPA, is a part of the 2011 NPSI changes, as they “move to a committee and networks approach to provide access to all individuals interested and involved with playgrounds and safety.”

ORPA Members: $595 Class & Exam, $475 Class Only
Non-Members: $645 Class & Exam, $525 Class Only
Exam-Only: $195 regardless of membership
