Come join us for a day of learning about site amenities and critical incident preparedness.  During this training we will be taking a look into what is needed for inspecting bleachers, drinking fountain maintenance, and site furniture maintenance and preservation.

We will also explore critical incident preparedness.  Is your organization prepared to respond to a critical incident? Do you recognize potential threats around you? This presentation will provide an overview of threat recognition, best practices during a casualty event and key elements of a successful plan for your organization.

Learning Objectives

  • What is involved with completing a bleacher inspection
  • Drinking fountain installation, maintenance and repair, and placement, including attention to ADA access
  • Maintaining outdoor furniture
  • Planning for a critical incident

Dave Farson has 20 years’ experience in the Parks and Recreation market.  Dave joined the PlayCore Team in 2006 as a regional sales manager with GameTime where he worked with the playground sales team until 2015.  Dave was a champion for inclusive design having worked on many large custom inclusive playground projects throughout the country.  In 2015 Dave joined National Recreation Systems where he is responsible for directing the sales of grandstands and bleachers in the spectator seating market.  He partners with over 300 National Recreation Systems dealers across the United States and in Canada to provide high quality, safe and inclusive spectator seating. Dave is a certified presenter of the Make A Stand continuing education program.

Sgt. Mike Done from Hillsboro Police Department

Mike Done is the Sergeant in charge of the City of Hillsboro training division for the last 4 years. Mike has been a police officer for the last 20 years and was a K9 officer for a large part of his law enforcement career. He has extensive knowledge in all aspects of law enforcement. Mike is passionate about training and is dedicated to preparing police officers to do their job with excellence, integrity and compassion.

Officer Kelly Hickman from Hillsboro Police Department

Kelly Hickman has been a patrol officer for the last 20 years. He has encountered many situations during his patrol days and uses his knowledge and experience to train other police officers. His real life experience brings depth and insight to all his trainings.

Justin Patterson is a Parks Consultant with Northwest Playground Equipment.  He is based in the Portland metro area.  Justin’s background includes 21 years as a parks director/parks manager in the Portland area before joining Northwest Playground. 

Scott Bruker, City of Hillsboro, Sports Programs and Facility Manager

Scott has been working in the program and facility management and operations for 33 years; his experience is in educational and public settings including aquatics, recreation, and sports.

Tom McNab, Cascade Recreation

A graduate of Washington State University, “Go Cougs!” taught printing, drafting and yearbook as well as coaching for 5 years at Battle Ground High School in Battle Ground, WA. Left teaching to enter the commercial printing industry, then another dozen years in the nursery and Christmas tree industry in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. While in the nursery industry served on the board of the Oregon Association of Nurseries including president of the association. Today, as a Certified Playground Safety Inspector, using the skills developed over the years in organization and leadership to serve the playground needs of Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Additional Information

If you would like to take notes during the workshop, please bring a notebook and writing utensil. One or more of our sessions may take place outdoors (weather permitting), so please be sure to wear sturdy walking shoes, layered clothing and bring a rain jacket if possible.
