ORPA's Maintenance & Construction Section (MACS) provides information and training to managers and technicians who are responsible for planning, design, and maintenance of park and recreation facilities. MACS provides networking and training for section affiliates to learn and share important information on maintenance and construction techniques, materials, regulations, and standards.

MACS offers a variety of training workshops throughout the year, including the annual Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) class and certification exam, the annual Playground Maintenance Technician (PMT) training, and more. The section also presents annual awards for outstanding maintenance and construction projects and personnel.  MACS volunteers give back through volunteer service projects and volunteer playground installations (see application below).  As funds are available, MACS offers scholarships to the annual Pacific Northwest Resource Management School and the annual CPSI course.

For 2017, MACS held a Basic Tree Risk Assessment and Management Workshop February 2nd; Playground Safety, Surfacing, Maintenance and Repair Workshop on March 9th; a 2-day Irrigation Workshop April 27-28, and a CPSI Course June 14-16th. Coming up is a workshop focused on Building Maintenance September 14th in West Linn. A Playground Maintenance Training Course is scheduled for October 5-6th at Willamalane in Springfield.

In 2016, MACS held the CPSI class (June 8-10 in Hillsboro), an irrigation workshop in July, a sports turf maintenance workshop in September, and Playground Maintenance Technician training in October. MACS also held a Maintenance Techniques track for the ORPA Annual Conference in November.

In 2015, MACS hosted the Certified Playground Safety Inspector class in Hillsboro, a playground installation workshop in Parkdale, and the Playground Maintenance Technician training program in October in Eugene. In 2014, MACS hosted the CPSI class, Playground Maintenance Technician training, a workshop on building maintenance and security, and a day-long natural play workshop with the ON-Play Network and Oregon State Parks.

Contact MACS President  Jesus Gonzalez, at Hillsboro Parks & Recreation, to learn more about MACS and to get involved with the section.
